Alternative & Holistic Healthcare Concentration

The Alternative & Holistic Healthcare
Concentration provides ICAF and ICAT
students with an understanding of alternative
medicine and holistic theories which they can
weave and integrate into their clinical,
educational, and consulting work and their
professional practice. Students explore current
issues and trends in a variety of holistic and
alternative approaches with a focus on
intervention strategies.

Alternative medicines embrace a wide variety of approaches to health, healing, and wellness. These approaches include diet and nutrition, acupuncture, hypnosis, expressive/creative arts therapies, massage, mindfulness, yoga, mind-body-spirit practices, meditation, and more.

Concentration Requirements:

ICAF and ICAT candidates must complete the following four General Education courses:

  • AH01  Alternative Medicine in the Continuum of Care
  • AH02  Theories of Holistic Care
  • AH03 Alternative Medical Approaches: A Survey
  • AH04  Illness & Wellness

All Alternative & Holistic Healthcare Concentration students are required to complete a Capstone Project. The Capstone Project begins as part of AH01 Alternative Medicine in the Continuum of Care and is due at the successful completion of the General Education coursework. Full details of the Capstone Project (many students select writing a paper for their project) are provided in the AH01 Alternative Medicine in the Continuum of Care course syllabus.

Upon successful completion of all Alternative & Holistic Healthcare Concentration requirements, students will receive an Alternative & Holistic Healthcare Certificate in addition to their ICAF or ICAT Certification.
